Submission of this application is the first step in the volunteer application and selection process. Please note that due to the high volume of applications we receive, specific requirements of our programs, and limited openings, we are unable to place every applicant.

The Volunteer Services team at Children's National will review all applications received and select candidates to continue to the next step in the onboarding process. Next steps may vary depending on each volunteer assignment and will include an interview with your prospective supervisor. The Volunteer Services team will communicate via email regarding final decisions and will provide instructions regarding required paperwork.

Individuals who are selected to become a Children's National Volunteer must adhere to the onboarding and training requirements of the program which includes a background investigation performed by an outside agency, submission of a comprehensive medical packet for medical clearance, online orientation, and in­ person training.

Volunteer Opportunities for 18 years and older:

  • Unit Volunteer: Unit Volunteers are directly supervised by Child Life Specialists on their assigned unit. They support the unit by providing bedside visits with patients of all ages, assisting in playrooms, and completing other tasks as needed.
    • Must be age 18+ and commit to a weekly shift of 2 hours
    • Must have reliable transportation
  • Kids in Action Volunteer: Volunteers will help children and young adults participate in athletic, social and creative activities by signing up for events. Events take place at Children's National Bunker Hill Road and within the community. The commitment for this role is 10 events per quarter.
    • Must be at least 16 years of age and older
    • Must have reliable transportation
    • Events will be held on weeknight evenings and weekends
  • Food Pharmacy Volunteer: Volunteers will help prepare nutrition and food insecurity resources, distribute food to patients, support food deliveries, and other programmatic and administrative tasks. Events take place at Children's National Columbia Heights primary care office. 2-4 hour shifts available between 12pm-4pm on Wednesdays.
    • Must be at least 15 years of age and commit to a 2-4 hour weekly shift on Wednesdays
    • Must have reliable transportation

Volunteer Opportunities for 15 year olds:

 

  • Food Pharmacy Volunteer: Volunteers will help prepare nutrition and food insecurity resources, distribute food to patients, support food deliveries, and other programmatic and administrative tasks. Events take place at Children's National Columbia Heights primary care office. 2-4 hour shifts available between 12pm-4pm on Wednesdays.
    • Must be at least 15 years of age and commit to a 2-4 hour weekly shift on Wednesdays
    • Must have reliable transportation

 

Volunteer Opportunities for 16-17 year olds:
